Valton felt his call to the ministry around the age of 12. Raised in a pastor's home Valton is no stranger to ministry and what all it entails. He has served as youth pastor, assistant pastor, co-pastor to Rev. Jack Tedford and currently Pastor of White River UPC.
God began the burden for White River United Pentecostal Church in Valton & Denise's heart years before they were ever approached by Bro. Tedford to consider coming and helping him out. In 2001 Bro. Tedford asked Bro. Elms to come co-pastor the church as he was getting older and would be ready to retire.
Bro. Elms also works in the commercial construction industry hanging acoustical ceilings. He has helped the AR District with several church in a day projects as well as going to the Dominician Republic several years ago to help build a church in a day there. He has also co-authored the book Countering Trinitarian Arguments. Denise is an accounting assistant for Cargill. She teaches a class on Wednesday evening of varying ages, leads worship and helps with fundraising events for the church. In her spare time she likes to bake, sew, read & just relax
Jack met Betty in Friona, TX at a revival her dad, Rev. Lesley Hassell, was preaching. They courted long distance for four years before marrying in 1947. They have two sons, David & Richard Tedford, as well as four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Jack attended college in Lubbock, TX and received a degree in accounting. After college he moved to Amarillo, TX and became an accountant for Pittsburgh Glass. Bro. Tedford received his call to preach in 1958 and served under his father-in-law in Clovis, NM. Also in 1958 he took over the pastorate of the church in Clovis and pastored there until 1978. It was at that time he felt a call to NWA and started White River UPC, West Fork in 1981. He has seen numerous lives changed by the power of God during his ministry. Bro. Tedford received an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Theology from Biblical Apostolic University in Texas, in 2006.
Bro. Tedford resigned as Pastor in 2011, however the Tedfords are still quite active as Bishop and Bishop's wife. Bro. Tedford still plays the keyboard every service and is learning new contemporary songs, teaches on occasion, and is active in peanut brittle making and selling. Sis. Tedford is a faithful prayer warrior.
